Parking

Parking on Newport streets is very limited and parking regulations are strictly enforced. Touro Synagogue encourages visitors to park at the Newport Gateway Center, located at 23 America's Cup Avenue (at W. Marlborough Street).

From the Newport Gateway Center, Touro Synagogue is roughly a 5 to 10-minute walk through the colonial town center.  You can download a guide map showing the route and describing Jewish historic sites along the way here: Guide to Washington Square.pdf

Visitors can also take advantage of the Newport Trolley which provides (for a modest fee) transportation throughout Newport. The City of Newport also has several public pay lots.

Directions

From the North and East
(Boston and New England):

Take Route 128S or 1-93S to Route 24S. Stay on 24S to Fall River. Entering Fall River, take Route 195W and almost immediately exit back onto 24S (Watch the signs carefully here!). Stay on 24S until it ends and merges on to 114S. Although not marked, this route is called West Main Road. Later, as you enter Newport, it becomes Broadway. Stay on this road for its entire length, until you enter Washington Square in downtown Newport. There will be a park on your left. The road ends at a pedestrian mall.  Make a left turn and then immediately, turn left again so you will be going back up the square on the other side of the park. This is Touro Street. Go through the next intersection, which is Spring Street and the Synagogue is the second building on the left. The entrance to the Synagogue for tours is through the Loeb Visitors Center on Spring Spring Street, just to the left of the light at Spring Street.

For tour parking at the Newport Gateway Center, 23 America's Cup Avenue, follow the directions above, but do not go into downtown Newport. Instead, from Broadway, turn right onto Summer Street. (If you see the Newport Hospital on your left you have gone too far.) Continue on Summer Street which becomes Van Zandt Avenue. Turn left onto Farewell Street and then right onto America's Cup Avenue. 23 America's Cup is on the right.

From the South and West
(New York and Connecticut):

Take I-95 North to Exit 3A in Rhode Island (138 East). Stay on route 138 across the Jamestown and Newport Bridges. Take the first exit off the Newport Bridge marked "Downtown Newport." Bear right at the end of the ramp and go through the first traffic light. At the second light bear left. Go through several stop signs. At the next light, with Banana Republic ahead and to the left, turn left. You will be heading up Touro Street with a park to your left. Go straight through the next intersection which is Spring Street. The Synagogue is the second building on the left. The entrance to the Synagogue for tours is through the Loeb Visitors Center on Spring Spring Street, just to the left of the light at Spring Street.

For tour parking at the Newport Gateway Center, 23 America's Cup Avenue, take the first exit off the Newport Bridge marked "Downtown Newport." Bear right at the end of the ramp and go through the first traffic light. At the next light turn right onto America's Cup Avenue. The Newport Gateway Center will be on your right.

Walking Directions From The Newport Gateway Center

From the front entrance of the Newport Gateway Center, cross America's Cup Avenue. Panera Bread will be on your left. Walk up through Pedestrian Mall. At the other end of the Mall, cross Thames Street. You are now on Touro Street. Washington Square Park will be on your left. Walk straight up the block to the light at the next corner, which is Spring Street. The Synagogue is the second building on the left across Spring Street. The entrance to the Synagogue for tours is through the Loeb Visitors Center on Spring Street, just to the left of the light at Spring Street.
